How the counting works

Letters follow the Abjad order. The eight memory words:

  • Final ہ / ة counts 5, like ہ. Most girls' names end in it, so it matters.
  • ء counts 1 and آ counts 1. ئ counts 10 (Ayesha, Saima). Some families count the hamza differently, so check the spelling you will use.
  • Vowel marks and the small standing alif (رحمٰن، موسیٰ) are not counted. A doubled letter (shadda) counts once.
  • Urdu letters count as their Arabic base: پ=2, چ=3, ٹ=400, ڈ=4, ڑ=200, ژ=7, گ=20, ں=50.
  • Names are matched to the year, the year + month number, or the year + month + day. The order of names can change without changing the total.
